Asportatio acroamatis

(commonly referred to as the Cassette Tape)

This species was first seen in the mid 1960s, but is not widespread until the 1970s. Similar to Repondecium antiquipotacium, it is thought that the compact disc lead to the decline in the Asportatio acroamatis population in the late 1990s. Asportatio has often been found in close proximity to Ambulephebus sonysymphonia, suggesting a close relationship between the two species.

I was checking out the new article on “Fossil of the Future” creator Christopher Locke over at Joshspear.com and stumbled across a new take on an old idea. Remember back in grade school when your teacher would assign to you the extremely important duty of acting as an ambassador of your nation state by combining a few prized possessions to represent your people to future generations? I wonder if your geocache will ever be unearthed?

I for one am grabbing my metal detector and taking to the backyard in hopes of excavating my prized G.I. Joe and gum creature collection (don’t ask). In the mean time imagine your in Pompeii that volcano just exploded and some 1700 years later some anthropologist is digging through your artifacts and wondering what defines you as a person what utility there was in your primitive belongings and what emotional attachment you held as you clutched onto your Nintendo WII and went down in a blaze of lava and ash. Maybe Edward Norton was correct in the move Fight Club to ask himself the question “which Ikea table defines me as a person?”

Even though our superior scientific technology does a much better job of preparing us for disasters, there’s really no telling when the big one will come and “preserve” us all. When future generations discover us, what sort of life instruments will they find to tell our tale? Artist Christopher Locke has somewhat of an idea, his modern fossils preserve our video game loving, boom box blasting heritage in stone.

Christopher Locke just another great example of creative culture zapped world wide to Fulicheng, China.
